Fat Gemini opens up an Etsy Shop!

Yay! I opened up my Etsy shop! I'm starting off with vintage stuff. Five vintage salt and pepper shakers to be exact. I did a little photoshoot yesterday and posted them last night during the football game ;)

Here is the link to the fatgemini shop.

And here are a few pics of the shakers!

"Art Teacher"

My first adventure in teaching found me last August. My cousin is an elementary school teacher who was in need of an art teacher. The school was in it's first year, only 4 lower class students, and could not afford to pay another teacher. It would just be a volunteer position, once a week for one hour. I jumped at the opportunity and Miss Davidson, the Art Teacher, was born.

I love my class and this year we have grown to 9 students! Wednesday's are my favorite days and I love to see what the kids come up with each week. They have some crazy imaginations and they end up teaching me a lesson or two along the way!

tasty treats?

So I love Halloween. And I mean LOVE. And I am so excited to be hosting our October monthly Pokeno game night with the ladies from church. I am going all out with the snacks! The cookies above are just one example of the treats I'll be serving. The picture above is from a Swedish blog and I had to translate it all thru Google translator. But for my lovely readers, I found the same recipe in english and here is the link.
Once I test the recipe myself, I'll post it on my page along with tips and pics!
Do you have any other fun ideas for me? Let me know!

origin of the fat gemini

Source: weheartit.com via Amber on Pinterest

I got this definition of Gemini from gotohoroscope.com
Pretty much sums it all up....

THE Zodiacal Sign of Gemini - The Twins commences on May 21st, but for seven days it does, not come into its full power until on or about May 28th.

From this date onwards it is in full strength until June 20th, and is then for seven days, gradually losing strength on account of becoming overlapped by the "cusp" of the incoming sign -Cancer.

The people who were born in this period are widely known for their dual personalities and ability to change mood from moment to moment. Although they hate to be tied down, they make lively, entertaining and romantic partners, even if they can be rather fickle if bored or unhappy.

Of all people they are the most difficult to understand; in temperament they are hot and cold almost at the same moment. They love with one side of their nature and they are often critical or dislike with the other people. Their sharp wit and excellent powers of observation make them a good raconteur, although they have a tendency to exaggerate which can cause trouble with their relationships.

It is difficult even for them to understand what they want to achieve. At heart they are ambitious for social position; but when obtained they have already tired of it, and are ready to go in for something else or for something totally opposite.

If taken as they are, in their own moods, they are the most delightful people imaginable, but one must not attempt to hold them or to expect them to be constant to their ideas or plans.

They believe they are truthful, constant, faithful, and so they may be at the moment, but every moment to them has a separate existence.

Almost all of them are great talkers and usually very much in demand socially because they are so entertaining. Gemini is the life of the party.

Either type make hosts of friends and are kind-hearted and generous to the person who fills their thoughts at the moment, but "out of sight, out of mind" explains their fits of "forgetfulness" as nothing else can.

In all matters of affection they are human puzzles. They can love passionately and yet be inconstant at the same moment, and it is only their shield of diplomacy and exquisite tact that keeps them from often making a mess of their lives.

I am pulled in two directions at all times.  My two personalities, I call them my "fat gemini" and my "skinny gemini".  My left brain and my right brain.  I am Thelma AND Louise.  It makes it hard to decide what to make for dinner...

A Very Dirty Summer or How I Spent My Summer Vacation

I spent the summer on my Dad's farm in Manitoba, Canada. I spent the summer, in a word, dirty.  Dad owns a greenhouse so my hands were in dirt, soil, and manure about 75% of the time.  Which is nice, actually. I find weeding in the garden very calming, kinda zen.  Sunburns resulting from too many hours in the garden, not so zen.  This summer was also the year of the big Flood.  In over 100 years the area has never seen a flood like this and we kept busy sandbagging neighbors houses and building dikes around their farms.

Here is a neighbors farm that I spent the day sandbagging at.  They brought in four huge trucks full of the sandbags.  Each bag weighs about 40lbs, about 2,000 bags per truck and I am not that strong of a girl.  I was working at a desk for the last 5+ years, the heaviest thing I had to pick up was a stapler...

I also inherited 12 chickens for the summer.  The owners were evacuated from their farm and asked if I could watch over the chicks.  Yes, they started off as tiny, cute, fuzzy yellow chicks and by the end of the summer were almost grown-up red hens.  I was disappointed that I didn't get any eggs from them before I left.  Chickens are dirty.  But I love these chickens!  And they loved me.  I swear.  They would all run to me and eat of my hand and jump on my shoulders.  And often poop on me.  That's the dirty part.

This is the corn, taller than me!  We had two gardens, each about the size of a football field that required watering, planting, weeding, harvesting.  It's a huge job!  Not to mention the two greenhouses full of flowers and vegetables as well.

That's just a bit of how I spent the summer.  I spared you the before and after pics of the outhouse that I cleaned, repainted, and decorated...

welcome back

Source: etsy.com via Amber on Pinterest

I was thinking about deleting all my old posts and starting fresh but I have changed my mind. I decided that instead I will just pick up where I left off.
I am now 30 (eek!) years old. Most 30 year olds have their Dirty Thirty birthday party. I'm pretty sure it involves a lot of alcohol... I've decided to take it a little more literally. I'm gonna get dirty this year, heck, this decade! I'm going to put the "bucket list" on my "to do list". And I'm going to get my hands dirty while doing it!
